The house is located on the east side Haliburton Lake, in a newly developed area and is separated from other developments by a large frontage. The building is oriented to maximize the views to the lake at the south and west, while keeping the north side opaque and protected from winds.
The main level consists of a great room and master suite. The great room, dining and kitchen areas are bright with south facing glass, as well as a clerestorey at the top of a mono-slope roof, allowing for natural vertical and cross ventilation. A more family/games room is located at the rear of the house to create a cosier and more enclosed ambience.
A major stair opening connects the upper and lower levels. The lower level incorporates a home theatre below the family room and a large recreation room and fitness room below the great room. Three more bedrooms are located below the kitchen and master suite. These lower level rooms do not feel like they are a basement but on a main floor because of the extensive use of south facing windows.
The main feature of this design is for the occupant to feel as though they are outdoors under a large canopy while maintaining comfort during all seasons. The rooms are always bright such that electric lighting is not necessary in the daytime.
Exterior cladding is Swisspearl, a fibre cement product which is completely maintenance free. Board formed concrete and stone form the balance of the exterior finish with a metal standing seam roof and metal clad windows.
